GUtil! is a Mozilla Firefox Extension that can help you access your Google account services faster.
Date of last release: November 2008
Latest GUtil! version is 2.3.3a, get it from Firefox Add-ons .
GUtil! includes a Firefox menu and toolbar button that currently contains 61 Google services.
I started working on GUtil! because 2 clicks are better than 5!
Version notes:
* Fixed that nasty duplicating tabs bug.
Planned features for future versions:
* support for multiple hosted domains
* support for international features (setting a default language will set all utilities to that domain/language)
* remove chevron, replace it with a “Hidden utilities” submenu that will list all hidden utilities and that will actually work as intended
* change how utilities are hidden in options dialog (make it more friendly)
The Google Code project home is here
You can also find the Google Group here
Features are added to the plugin on user request. If you would like something added, please post a comment on Mozilla Addons or post a request to the group, and it will be added to the plugin.

What is “chevron”?

Hello Reuven,
The chevron is the Expand menu item that temporarily shows all menu items.

Hi,
I’m using firefox3 pre in which the Apps for Your Domain doesn’t seem to function. The symptom is that the menu item always brings me to http://www.google.com/a instead of http://www.google.com/a/mydomain.com despite of the fact that I’ve already configured my domain name.
Could you please spare some minutes to see into that?
Thanks in advance and thanks for your useful extension.

Hello,
I am going to test that functionality on 3.0b5 and also update the plugin.
Thanks for your message.

Bogdan

Hi, excelent utility for Firefox. I have one suggestion. It could be great if there would be an option to change order of elements in pop up menu. Anyway, great utility. Thank you.

I am using firefox 3.0 on 2 different Mac laptops. Gutil doesn’t work on either one. Just made sure I had the latest and had the same problem. Doesn’t work at all.

@Sepp: I’m working on a new version that contains that feature. The bad thing is that I don’t know when it will be ready.
@Allison: I don’t have a Mac to test on. I’l get one running inside a VM and probably see what’s going on before the next release.
@blusior: Will do!
Thanks for the messages and for using Gutil.

Bogdan

Request for Feature: Would it be possible to add https option for Docs and Spreadsheets? It is a must have for securing your shared Google Docs.
@Allison: I’m using MacBook Pro under Tiger (10.4.11) and Firefox 3.0 and GUtil! 2.3.2 works just fine for me.

I got the “Type Error: aEls is undefined” pop-up message when Firefox was loaded after I upgraded to Firefox 3.0.1 from 2.0.0.16. Because I have lots of extensions, I could not figured out which ones caused the problem. However, when I tried to figured some issue I have w/ GUtil! (see below), I found the pop-up message disappeared when I disabled GUtil!. I wonder whether GUtil! make any JavaScript call generates this error.
Now, here’s the problem I like to figure out — I just noticed that the menu items list of my GUtil! 2.3.2 does not follow the visibility I set in ‘Option’ and this only happens in FF 3.0.1. My another PC which still has FF 2.0.0.16 does not have this problem.
September 24th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
I have GUtil! 2.3.2
I get javascript warnings for each Google utility item when I open a Firefox 3.0.1 window. If I have all of the utilities checked I have to click ok or cancel dozens of times before Firefox can start. This is disappointing and I have to disable this add-on until I learn of a fix. Please let me know if there is a fix to this.

Sorry for not answering, I’ve been kind of busy lately.
I haven’t upgraded to 3.0.1 yet, as I’ve been away during the update. I’ll try to find and fix the problem sometime next week.

Bogdan

I am running window vista with firefox 3.0.3. From GUtil, I do not seem to be able to open “iGoogle”
I never used this app before until now. In reality I do not know if it is supposed to work, I’m assuming that it is supposed to do. I download the latest GUtil upgrade and still does not work. Thank for any comment.
November 9th, 2008 at 9:12 pm
I added all the requested services, removed the ones that have been discontinued, added keyboard support…
I didn’t include the international support, the reordering or the hidden tools. Maybe next time…

Bogdan

I have enjoyed the utility for some time but have noticed something strange on both work and home machines. I use Flock which is built on the Mozilla engine and most add ons work with no problem. Just after the last update you did when ever I open one thing from your menu it opens up two tabs for the same thing. Any suggestions.

In Options:
“Google Apps Domain
Insert the domain name in the box below.
Please use this only if you know what you are doing!”
How about a hint? What is it? What is it for?
How does one acquire the knowledge of what one is doing?

I finally got 20 minutes to fix the duplicating tab bug so I finally did it.
The new version is in the Sandbox so it should be available in a day or two.
Sorry for the irritating bug
Thanks for using Gutil!

Bogdan

@Matt Wills
Well, if you have Google Apps you must access GMail and the other apps using a domain name.
If you fill in the domain name it will be used by the apps. If you fill in a wrong domain name, you will be directed to “Domain does not exist” pages.
That’s about it.

Bogdan
